Being Family Again
Joan's story
When Joan’s husband, Dan, was in hospital with terminal cancer, he knew he did not want to spend his final days in a hospital setting.
Joan and her family had heard good things about Dr. Kemp’s House. They hoped hospice care would offer Dan comfort, dignity and a place where their family could be together.
Dan arrived at Dr. Kemp’s House in October. He was there for less than three days, but that time gave his family something they will always remember.
“They were absolutely wonderful,” Joan said. “They took such good care of him, but they also took such good care of me and our family.”
The lasting impact of bereavement support
Patricia’s story
Patricia came to Kemp Care Network after the death of her husband in July 2023.
For months, she had cared for him at home, honouring his wish to spend his final days in the place they shared. After he died, the reality of the loss became harder to carry.
“I thought I could handle it,” Patricia said. “Most people think they can. But I realized I was really struggling.”
Helping people feel at home
Rosanne's Story
For nine years, Rosanne has helped people feel at home at Kemp Care Network.
You may recognize her from the front desk at Dr. Kemp’s House on Monday mornings, where she welcomes visitors, answers questions and helps people find where they need to go.
“I love being able to help somebody figure out the system,” she said. “That’s where I feel I’m making a difference.”
