At the Kemp Care Network, we compassionately serve the emotional, physical, social, and spiritual needs of individuals living with a progressive life-limiting illness until the end of life. We support them, their bereaved, and our community through our residential, outreach, and bereavement programs.

Position: Permanent part-time Weekend Kitchen Help (Every Sunday and some relief work as needed)

Status: Union – Part-time and permanent; 8 hours per week. Every Sunday 11am to 7pm. Vacation & Sick time relief and Special Events as needed.

Wage: $17.86/hour plus .50 cent weekend shift premium.

Job Summary: The position is responsible for the safe preparation and delivery of meals for residents, as directed by the Kitchen Manager and with special consideration to any dietary requirements or individual requests by residents.

The Team member works in close collaboration with the Residential staff team, communicating meal orders, the timing of meals and understanding the individual needs of residents. The position is responsible for maintaining a clean working environment by following established cleaning procedures and practices and always adhering to all internal Health & Safety and Public Health requirements and standards.

 

Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting with:

Kitchen Duties:

  • Prepare nutritious meals based upon Canada Food Guide.
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic environment, including stove, fridge, sinks, countertops, back walls, sanitizer, interior, and exterior cupboards.
  • Washes pots, pans, trays, and dishes by hand then placing in sanitizer.
  • Ensure food is kept covered and stored in a hygienic manner.
  • Transfer supplies and equipment between storage and work areas by hand or by use of hand truck.
  • Segregate and remove trash and garbage and place it in designated containers.
  • Always follow all Public Health & Safety Standards.
  • FIFO method of rotation
  • Check all dates for expiring and rotate storage of food

Administration:

  • Prepare nutritious meals in collaboration with the Kitchen Manager based upon Canada Food Guide.
  • Inform management when items need to be replaced or repaired
  • Supervision of volunteers

Qualifications, Education &Experience: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Canadian Food Handlers Certificate
  • Sound knowledge of all types of food preparation and presentation
  • Experience cooking for a large group would be an asset
  • Ability to respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Police vulnerable sector clearance and meet the requirements of vulnerable sector standards for employment by our agency
