HOURS: Monday to Friday 8 Hour Shifts (occasional evenings and weekends may be required)

POSITION OVERVIEW

While the position may include the types of HR generalist responsibilities for which you have spent years honing your skills and networks, there are some things that set this position apart.

Foremost, you will be the focal point for all facets of the human resources function, including policy and procedure, compliance and best practices for payroll oversight, labour relations, benefit administration, retention and recruitment as well as health and safety.

While this position reports to the CEO, it is one that will have you working regularly with the management team, engaging with employees, and provide relationship building with partners and stakeholders. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in human resources or a related field (university considered an asset)
  • 5+ years of proven experience in an HR Generalist role, preferably in a unionized environment
  • Competent with various HRIS, database, payroll, preferably Ceridian, and a variety of social media platforms and Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong knowledge of HR legislation, regulations, compliance and best practices
  • Excellent interpersonal, communications and negotiation skills
  • Proven health & safety experience, including Joint Health & Safety Committee education/experience
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional HR development
  • CHRP certification is an asset

KEY AREAS OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Accountability

  • · Serve as a visible and credible ambassador of the organization, in alignment with the brand, the vision, mission and values
  • · Provide committed and thoughtful leadership in all interactions
  • · Attend all staff meetings and other meetings or events as required
  • · Ensure all legal, safety and organizational HR risks are considered based on honed skills, knowledge and sound decision-making
  • · Ensure effective conflict resolution strategies are deployed at the right time with compassion, empathy, integrity and learning as the cornerstones
  • · Adhere to all professional college and ethical guidelines
  • · Ensure that all health and safety policies and procedures are current and monitored
  • · Ensure compliance with confidentiality and conflict of interest legislation and policy

Human Resources Administration

  • · Implement, administer, foster and monitor compliance of organizational policies and procedures as well as legislation
  • · Maintain employee files and provide insight on people, data and information · Ensure organization compliance with required training
  • · Input and manage information in the HRIS and other databases
  • · Support and audit records management program
  • · Ensure transparency and accessibility for policies, procedures, and forms
  • · Manage full cycle recruitment and selection based on organizational needs aligned to mission and values
  • · Undertake organizational activities and actions with strict adherence to the collective agreement, when appropriate, and participate in negotiations at the time of the collective agreement review

Safety

  • · Responsible for organizational health and safety function; including, coordinating safety training; maintaining safety training tracking log; and managing safety incidences and events such as workplace illness/injuries
  • · Administering the workplace injuries process, including WSIB claims and return to work plans
  • · Participate on the Health and Safety and Fire Safety Committee:
  • · Participant in workplace health and safety investigations

Benefits Administration

  • · Administer employee benefits programs including employee inquires, enrollment and the possible evolution of the benefits package
  • · Administer and advise on all complex leave issues

Training and Development

  • · Identify training needs and coordinate training programs as appropriate and aligned with the organizational strategic plan
  • · Collaborate with the department heads to ensure professional development plans are cyclically undertaken, tracked and reported on

Employee Engagement

  • · Contribute to initiatives aimed at enhancing employee engagement and bolstering organizational culture aligned with mission, values and the strategic plan
  • · Organize and participate-in employee events and activities
  • · Solicit and analyze employee feedback to monitor and enhance workplace satisfaction
  • · Contribute to and foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture while deploying a high level of political acumen to advice management on strategies towards strengthening the organizations commitment to mission and values

Payroll and Data

  • · Manage payroll and compensation functions in concert with the payroll contractor
  • · Manage documentation for processing of benefits, personal and position data and payroll
  • · Responsible for overseeing all payroll related reporting including Records of Employment (ROE), completing annual returns such as Employer Health Tax (EHT) and WSIB, government reporting/remittances; prepare and deliver various reports and ensure compliance
  • · Liaise with finance colleagues to reconcile payroll data
  • · Respect and maintain confidentiality for people, data and information

Labour/Employee Relations

  • · Develop and administer labour relations policies, processes and systems
  • · Participate in labour management meetings and foster an appropriate relationship with the union
  • · Management of the conflict, complaint, grievance and arbitration process in concert with department managers
  • · Assist managers with the interpretation and application of collective agreement, polices, ESA, OLRA, OHRC and all applicable legislation

Performance Management

  • · Support the performance management process including setting outcomes, targets and performance reviews tethered to the organizational strategic plan
  • · Provide guidance to managers and employees on performance related matters
  • · Assist in the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators, career development plans, learning and training plans, and performance improvement plans
